Spiral/Posts are two parts of a ritual performance, started during the residency "Think like a Mountain" guided by M.E. Strom and Ann Carlson in Montana and finished as a Stanford project in California. In the duo Spiral, done with my colleague Myrton Running Wolf, I chanted inside of a spiral I built with burned branches. In Posts, ten performers, like guardians of a sacred place, came out from a selva oscura to escort ten spectators in an interactive journey of poetry and sacred music.

MUSEUMS
In 2013, I enjoyed being the assistant director of choreographer Aleta Hayes in Being S(c)ene, a site-specific dance/installation done at the Cantor Arts Center, Stanford University. Inspired by the simultaneous retrospective of Carrie Mae Weems’ photographic work, we used choreography to reframe, under innovative identity politics, some of the several power expressions permeating art history. We guided spectators through an itinerary of simultaneous performances done in front of the museum's artworks. Students identified in each artwork race, class, and gender stereotypes, which they read through the instruments of identity politics. With the scope of modifying such statements, students enacted actions interacting with the works. Fashion was also an important element in the performance. The costumes conceived by Lava Thomas became tools and objects of the students’ institutional critique.

Although in rebuilding props, costumes, and set design, we had to adapt the piece to heavy emergency policy restrictions, my experience of directing students in the reenactment of this historic Happening was incredibly enriching. We had a fantastic experience in terms of teamwork, intellectual challenge, imaginary expansion, and self-expression.
